My schedule is totally ruined. I am a man of little character; I am easily distracted by shiny objects and have no will. Actually, I have a very strong will. My will lies somewhere within my bowels. It shouts at me from time to time, but I ignore it. It shouts, I ignore it and that creates a cognitive dissonance that keeps me in a perpetual state of inaction.
I eat at a different time every day. I go to bed at a different time every night. There is nothing regular about my life at this time but for teaching in the evening. The problem here is being self employed, and having a five month old son who won’t sleep through the night.
Being self employed means that if I have my teaching materials prepared and I’m tired, I take a nap. Or more precisely, lie on the floor of my home and bitch about the heat. Either way, I’m not getting anything done. There are others things I would like to get done, but being self employed does not provide me with any structure to do it. I am left to my own wiles. And being a man who routinely ignores his otherwise Spartan self will, those “wiles” usually mean napping and bitching.
Rentaro still doesn’t sleep through the night. I don’t know if that’s normal for a five month old or not, but that doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t sleep. He is on a regular schedule and we try to work around it. He wakes up every 2 or 3 hours and plays. He doesn’t play quietly. He shouts, he laughs, he rolls, he pulls hair, he squeals; all normally rather gleeful. At any other time, other than 3 a.m., it is a joy how happy he is. But months of not sleeping have taken its toll and when Dad has the minimum of responsibilities completed Dad has neither the energy nor the gumption to complete any other tasks.
One such outside of minimum responsibility task is this blog which up till now had been rather neglected. But not just this blog, other things I would like to do have been left on the side of the highway. But no longer.
From today, I am back on a schedule. I worked it out with Manami and she is being very supportive, as usual. Things will get done! So keep checking this blog, I will be routinely updating it come hell or high water or napping or bitching.
