Yesterday, I was talking to a Japanese friend while walking down the street. We were just shooting the breeze when we passed by two Chinese ladies. The two ladies were chatting away in Chinese of course. After we passed them, my friend smiled and said, “Ching chang, ching chong” and giggled. I couldn’t help but giggle either but not because I think Chinese accents are funny. I giggled because it was a strange, surreal experience to hear a Japanese guy make fun of a Chinese accent in exactly the same way an American would.
That experience put a song in my head.
Manami loves this song now and she walks around singing it.
